The Treasure

There is a treasure in my heart,

It cannot fade away.

And never will I ever part

From what is here to stay.

This treasure is not what you think,

It's not of gems nor gold.

It is not blue nor red nor pink

Nor of those chests untold.

But all these things you leave behind

To seek this treasure—oh!,

How great the things which you may find

When you to this quest go.

This treasure is the Word of G-d

Which rests inside my soul.

It's like a guide and help and rod

To help me play my role.

Oh—with it I will never part—

So ever great and true,

For this treasure deep in my heart

I would give all I knew.

Dedicated to all who memorize G-d's Word  | October 18, 2016

I was in Jerusalem, Israel when I wrote this poem.

During that time I was preparing to compete in the National Bible Bee.  The preparation became somewhat frustrating for me as I traveled with my family since I felt I was behind my study schedule.  I knew I had a pretty good chance to win a place this year...

Then suddenly, one day, the L-RD reminded me about something—the real reason I was in the competition and the true prize for competing.

Every passage I memorize—every verse, every phrase—is a priceless treasure.  It is well worth the time to memorize the Word of G-d.  What it gives us is more than we can ever imagine.
